What’s The Best Target Rifle?

What's The Best Target Rifle

The FTP900 is my personal rifle of choice; it is the gun that I compete with and the rifle that I took to the 2014 World Championships. It is a monster of a rifle at nearly 12lbs in weight and at nearly £1500, it is certainly not cheap, it is however, a thing of beauty and in my opinion worth every penny.

The FTP900 was designed by AirArms to replace the EV2 and has been in development for many years. The main firing body is milled from a single 3kg billet of aluminium and when it is done, it weighs in at just over 500grams. It is fully regulated and has a match grade barrel, trigger and everything else that you can think of. The FTP was built without compromise and this is why it is a little hard to get one. If you order an FTP, you will have to accept that you may have to wait to get it. AirArms have been inundated with orders for this rifle and even though they are trying to get them out the door as quickly as possible, they will not compromise on quality.

As it is a target rifle, everything is adjustable: the hamster, and cheek riser can not only move up and down, but they can tilt from side to side and forward and back, the built in butt hook is extendable for an FT shooter and can be retracted for HFT the trigger is the best out of the box trigger I have ever use and is fully adjustable for weight and pull.

Basically, If HFT and FT were Olympic sports, this is one of the rifles that would be used, but I am also aware of the weight. The only criticism I have heard about the FTP is how heavy it is. So, for shooters who need a target rifle that is a bit lighter, then have a look at the AirArms MPR

The MPR is the target version of the S400. It is a rifle that has been used by many of the top shooters in the country and is still used today to great effect. It is shorter, lighter and much cheaper than the FTP and for some people, it may be a better rifle.

It is vitally important that when you buy a target rifle, you purchase one that fits you correctly and the MPR is well balanced and compact and wit the built in adjustable cheek piece combined with a match grade trigger and barrel, it is an awesome weapon to use in FT and HFT.

No matter which rifle you buy, I hope you are very happy with it, AirArms is a stunning company with legendary customer service and when this is combined with the team at the AirGun centre, you know that this should give you a trouble-free owning experience.
